WELCOME TO CLAYTOR LAKE ONLINE
|
Welcome to Claytor Lake Online! You will find information on the State Park, Activities, Boating, Fishing, Watersports,
and Real Estate....all pertaining to Claytor Lake!
 Claytor Lake Boating
Claytor Lake is an exciting place to spend the weekend, especially if you have a boat. There are no restrictions on the types of boats that you can
use, and there are multiple private and public boat launches. Some visitors enjoy sailing under the natural winds of the appalachain mountains. Others enjoy
pulling skiers and tubers along the wide portions of Claytor Lake. Near the rocky cliffs you can find anglers of all sorts in Rowboats, fishing boats, and
even canoes! Finally, some people just enjoy the thrill and speed of a jet ski. If you are looking for regulations, or public information, you may want to
try Public Boating Access.
Sail Boats
Sailboats are challenging at Claytor Lake, but you can find other sail boat owners as far as the eye can see. Often, makeshift beer-can regattas are
held across the wider portions, along with fun and make believe pirate games. A steady breeze most times of the year will keep your boat moving. Of course
sail boats generally use less fossil fuels and release less pollutants into the water overall. A really
neat site is the Claytor Lake Sailing Organization
Powerboats
Powerboating at Claytor Lake can be really exciting! Because the main channel is over 55 feet deep, and the lake is over 21 miles
long, there is ample space to run "wide open", pulling others behind you if you wish. Most of the wide areas of the lake are not quite wide enough for
racing, but that's not to say races don't occur! Its nice to compliment your speed with some nice open water time, quietly rocking back and forth, and
perhaps going on a lazy swim near your boat. Watch out for people in the water!
Fishing BoatsThis past-time has also become a major attraction at Claytor Lake. Relax. Unwind. Enjoy the peaceful rocking of your fishing boat over
the majestic scenery of the BlueRidge Mountains that surround you. Toss a line in the water near a rocky cliff, and expect to catch some fish! You may want
to stick to the inlets, outlets, and other shallow areas of Claytor Lake to best utilize your fishing boat's capabilities to get you into the best spots.
Pontoon Boats
The perfect combination of speed, fishing, and the 'off the water' feel of a sailboat. Pontoon boats actually float on pontoons. They are probably the most
sought after boat for the deeper areas of the lake, mostly because their flat decks offer sunbathing, fishing, and towing capabilities.
Rent a Boat!
If you don't own a boat, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy one! Claytor Lake State Park has a boat rental service available. The boats vary in size and can
rented by the hour, or by the day! Human powered boats can also be rented such as rowboats, kayaks, and canoes. If you are interested in seeing more, please
